The Nare has been reaffirmed as the leading hotel in Cornwall by becoming the first to be awarded five stars by The AA.

The country house hotel on the Roseland Peninsula has been the highest rated Cornish hotel for the last 30 years and has held four AA Red stars for the last decade.

Hotel proprietor Toby Ashworth said: “I am very proud that The Nare has been recognised as the first AA 5 star hotel in Cornwall. Achieving 5 stars has been a rigorous process over two years and not just the result of a multi-million pound investment.

"There has been a steady increase in quality standards over the last 20 years.  The Nare’s hallmark of traditional hospitality offers guests a standard of comfort and service that most hotels simply do not provide.”

“It is a huge testament to the loyal family of staff and the particular dedication of general manager Matthew Voyle. It is also very timely and rewarding to receive this accolade in our 30th anniversary year.”

“I believe this award will be a tremendous boost for international tourism in Cornwall, particularly for attracting the US market, and will enable The Nare to stand with confidence alongside other leading 5 star hotels in Britain and on the international stage.”

No other hotel in Cornwall has yet achieved 4 AA Red stars status.

Falmouth Packet:

The Nare is among the leading country house hotels in UK and one of just 50 included in the exclusive Pride of Britain Hotels Collection, for many years being the only Cornish hotel represented.

It continues to be the only hotel in the south west to be a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

The Nare, which is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, was reopened in 1989 by Bettye Gray, and since then has been considered to be the first luxury hotel in Cornwall.

Mr Ashworth is Bettye’s grandson and fifth generation hotelier and shares his grandmother’s vision to provide a comfortable elegant luxury hotel for discerning guests.

Falmouth Packet:

Robert Martin, AA south west area manager, said: “The Nare has continued to strive for top quality and comfort for the last three decades being one of Cornwall’s strongest establishments.”

“The AA’s scheme assesses everything from reception, concierge and housekeeping services to the size and spaciousness of bedrooms and public areas. A 5 star status requires excellence in all aspects.”

The Nare’s continued success is built on a high proportion of guests who return each year. It is renowned for its stunning sea views and is considered by many to be the most comfortable hotel in the West Country.
