Nominations are open for Penryn's highest honour - the Saracen Award.

Penryn Town Council is inviting residents to nominate people in the community for their contributions to the town.

The prestigious award will be handed out in a ceremony next year that will most likely take place in May.

It is considered to be the highest mark of esteem and honour that the council can bestow in recognition of services to Penryn.

The town council may make up to two awards in any one year and recipients are restricted to individuals who have at some time resided or worked in the Parish of Penryn, or to organisations based in or serving the town.

Previous winners have included historian Ernie Warmington who won a posthumous award in 2016.

Helen and Michael Moore were recognised for their work with the town's Christmas Lights display in the same year.

Patricia Ashe who set up Breathe Falmouth, a club for people with breathing difficulties, won a Saracen Award in 2013.

Anthony Retallack, Michael Young and Peter Young were also recognised with an award for their work with Penryn Athletic Football Club in 2013.

Alison Williams MBE won a Saracen Award in 2005 for her work with the St John Ambulance.

Nominations should be made in writing to the Town Clerk at Penryn Town Council, The Library, St Thomas Street, Penryn TR10 8JN by Friday October 25 at the latest.

A decision will be made at a town council meeting on Monday November 4.
