The Cornish Pirates scored seven tries as they earned their first win of the 2019/20 season in style, running out 48-0 winners at Yorkshire Carnegie in their second RFU Championship Cup pool match.

Smarting from a 24-20 defeat at London Scottish in last weekend's opener, the Pirates needed a response in their second of six Pool C matches, and they certainly got that with Callum Patterson scoring twice and JB Bruzulier also going over before half-time, with Javier Rojas Alvarez, who opened the scoring with an early penalty, converting both of Patterson's efforts.

Marlen Walker secured the bonus point early in the second half before Patterson completed his hat-trick, with Rojas Alvarez converting both. Will Wilson added try number seven, again converted by Rojas Alvarez, with Tom Cowan-Dickie going over for an unconverted try in the final minute.

Redruth returned to winning ways in National League 2 South with a bonus-point win at Worthing. Aaron Simmonds and Dean Bonds scored two unconverted tries for the Reds in the first half, with Fraser Honey landing two penalties to give the visitors a 16-point lead at the break.

The home side got back into it in the second half, but the Reds held on to secure their second victory of the season, with Matt Shepherd's try sealing the all-important bonus point.

Camborne were well beaten at Barnstaple in their South West Premier match at Pottington Road, losing 44-13 to the Devon side. Jake Murphy put the hosts 13-3 all by himself, scoring two penalties befofe converting his own try, with Jacob Champion kicking the visitors' penalty.

The home side edged further in front with a penalty try, but Declan Matthews went over for the Cherry & Whites, converted by Rhys Brownfield, before Champion reduced the deficit at half-time to 20-13 with another penalty.

But that was as good as it for the Cornish club, with Murphy, Brendon Darly, Luke Berry and Winston James all going over after the break.

Penryn surrendered a half-time lead to lost 21-13 at Tiverton in Western Counties West. The Borough led 10-8 at the break at Coronation Field, but a penalty was all they could manage after the break as the hosts went on to win, with Penryn agonisingly missing out on a losing bonus.

Falmouth were also on the losing side in Western Counties, losing 26-12 at Bideford.

In Cornwall/Devon, Truro made it four wins from four with a 43-14 win at home to newly promoted North Tawton, with their bonus point meaning they have taken the maximum 20 points from their four games.

Lanner enjoyed a 56-10 win at Exeter Athletic, Pirates Amateurs battled to a narrow 21-18 win at Topsham, and promoted side Veor earned their first win in the division, running out 45-13 winners at home to South Molton.

In Cornwall 1, Hayle surrended top spot to Newquay Hornets after drawing 10-10 with Camborne SoM, St Agnes romped to a 60-3 win at home to Lankelly-Fowey, Illogan Park lost 29-5 at Bodmin and St Just lost 49-5 at home to new leaders Newquay.

In Cornwall 2, Helston drew 7-7 at home to Perranporth, Stithians lost 21-0 at home to Roseland and Redruth Albany lost 22-6 at Camelford.
