It was suitably wet weather for an underwater themed procession yesterday when children from Falmouth’s primary schools gathered for the annual Grand Oyster Parade.
Always a colourful highlight of Falmouth Oyster Festival, the parade still went ahead despite the weather.
Thankfully the heavy rain of earlier in the day eased off for the 3.15pm procession start at The Moor, which saw hundreds of pupils and their teachers carrying sea creatures through the town to the National Maritime Museum Cornwall on Events Square.
They were led by the 15 foot tall Oysterman puppet Arlo, which was created by schoolchildren from the town with the help of Falmouth artist John Dyer back in 2011 following a competition to design a lasting legacy for the festival. The winning design for Arlo was by 11-year-old Marlborough School pupil Katie Phelps.
Even with the drizzle it was an improvement on last year, when the parade had to be cancelled due to Storm Callum hitting the town.
