Construction and property service group Midas received a commendation at the recent Green Construction Awards for the construction of Jubilee Wharf in Penryn.

The Green Construction Awards organised by leading trade publication Construction News recognised firms that have made the first important steps towards sustainable construction, providing an example for the rest of the industry to follow.

Midas received a "Special Mention" in the "Green Small Project of the Year" category, which included projects that had been focused on environmental delivery of projects from design to construction.

Executive director Murdo Mace from Midas, said: "We were delighted to be recognised as one of the UK's leading construction companies in terms of environmental sustainability.

"At Midas we pride ourselves on our environmental vision and we are always looking for techniques, systems and materials, which can contribute to a project's overall environmental sustainability.

"We are proud of our involvement in Jubilee Wharf and hope to work on many similar projects in years to come."

Jubilee Wharf is a mixed-use development comprising a nursery, café, offices, live-aboard facilities for houseboat owners, 12 rented workspaces and six residential units.

The development, which was completed in October 2006 relies on renewable energy for the majority of its power and was built using locally sourced and reclaimed materials.

It was designed by one of Britain's foremost green architects, Bill Dunster and has become a signature building for sustainability in the South West.

This year Construction News launched the awards to showcase the significant steps that are being made in the construction industry towards environmental sustainability.
