Fundraising for a motorcyclist left with life-changing injuries in a crash on Thursday evening has reached almost £1,500 in less than 24 hours.

Levis (Liam) Tregunna was just minutes from his home near Truro, on his way to begin his anniversary weekend with wife Hanner, when he was involved in a serious collision with a car just outside Shortlanesend.

One side of his body is said to have been completely shattered by the impact, with his head, pelvis, leg and arm, wrist and hand all seriously injured.

He has since been transferred to Derriford Hospital for specialist treatment.

Friends and colleagues from Clique Barbershop in Truro, where Levis is head barber, have now set up a crowdfunding page to raise funds to help Hanner with travel expenses visiting him in Plymouth.

It currently sits at £1,483, smashing the £1,000 target in less than 24 hours. Donations can still be left at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/levthebarber.

Tom Upsher, co-owner of Clique, wrote on the page: “Watching Lev lie in the road being worked on by the incredible paramedics and critical care team, his unrecognisable bike a mangled twist of folded metal entangled into the front of someone’s car, the smell of the fuel and oil around us and the sound of the paramedics desperately trying to stabilise him, is one of the hardest things we have all been part of.

“As you all know, Lev is one of the best barbers we know, he is one of the best in the industry, however, his passion and his career have now been severely jeopardised and could abruptly come to an end.

“His family at Clique want to support both Lev and Hanner in this desperately hard time for them and hope that we can create the opportunity for you to help him too.

“Lev is a self-employed barber and in these unimaginable life changing circumstances, his income has now ceased and Hanner now has to find a way to get to Plymouth from Truro to visit him during this challenging ordeal along with now trying to support their lives on just one income.

“We ask you as his loyal friends, customers and fellow motorcyclists… can you please help Lev and Hanner afford her travelling expenses and the ability to start rebuilding their lives after this heart-breaking situation.”

Speaking more about the collision, he added that Lev had come up against the car only metres in front of him, giving him no chance to brake before the impact.

A collection is also being taken at The Old Plough pub at Shortlanesend, where staff said: “When an accident like this happens it has a massive emotional impact but also a financial one too.

“We are taking up a collection in the pub to help with transport, accommodation etc for Levis and Hannah.”
