NOMINATIONS for a community person or group to switch on Falmouth Christmas lights this year are now open.

Continuing with tradition, Falmouth’s Town Team is seeking a worthy person or community group to do the honours on November 28 at 7pm.

Nominations can be sent either via email to ruth@falmouth.co.uk or by phoning the Town Team office on 01326 313553 by midday on Wednesday, November 20.

The lucky individual or group will then need to be free from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on the evening of the switch-on.

The event kick-starts the town’s festive season. Local bands, choirs and schools will participate in the Christmas parade from Events Square to The Moor before performing on the Christmas stage prior to the switch-on.

Richard Wilcox, Falmouth BID manager, said: “The switch-on event is a cracking evening and epitomises the strength of Falmouth’s community so well.

"Hundreds of children representing every local primary school, volunteers, choirs, dance groups and businesses come together to create a vibrant, colourful parade and entertaining switch-on.

"We think it appropriate, therefore, that the Christmas lights are switched on each year by somebody that has helped our special community in some way or another. So do support your town this Christmas and experience the switch-on evening and the many other brilliant events being organised.”

Falmouth Christmas Lights Switch-on evening schedule:

5.40pm – The Falmouth Christmas parade with local primary schools taking part (led by Pendennis Brass band) leaves Events Square and marches through the main streets to The Moor. Meanwhile on The Moor, local singers and bands perform on the stage as spectators await the arrival of the children.

6.15pm – Local school groups arrive on The Moor and take to the stage to perform carols and festive songs.

7pm – The big switch-on by Falmouth’s nominated community champion for 2019.

7pm to 8pm – Performances continue on the stage by local music and dance groups.

The switch-on is part of a new Christmas events programme that runs from November 24 until January 5.

There will be events across the town throughout the month and new for this year will be the Falmouth Festive Weekend on December 14 and 15.
