More than 2,000 homes across Cornwall remain without power after a night of storms that saw wind speeds of almost 90mph.

Western Power Distribution said it was dealing with incidents across the county, stretching from far down in West Cornwall to past Truro.

They include St Just, Penzance, various villages along the Penzance to Helston road, St Ives, Mawgan and Helford on the Lizard Peninsula, Lanner, Perranwell Station and Bissoe, St Agnes, the Roseland Peninsula and beyond.

The Mawnan Smith area and parts of Threemilestone and Truro are now also affected.

The company said there are currently 2,814 homes without electricity, in 71 separate incidents. 

This figure rose to more than 3,000 homes earlier those morning, but some properties have been re-connected. 

Engineers are working constantly to restore connections, with estimates ranging from 12.30pm to 2.30pm depending on location.

UPDATE 3.30pm: Western Power is reporting that 1,871 homes still remain without power in 72 incidents around Cornwall this afternoon.

They now include 43 homes in the Smithick Hill area of Falmouth and 38 in the Greenwood Road area of Penryn, with power due to be restored at 5pm and 7.30pm respecively.

Other areas affected include Porthleven - where 34 homes have no electicity - Breage, Stithians and Chacewater.
