A day of food and farming was celebrated on Saturday when Helston Fatstock Show returned for its 149th year.

The day started off with a fair amount of rain but that didn't put off the exhibitors, visitors and stallholders to the event which was all held under the one roof at Franchis Farm, near Wendron, thanks to Bob Cowell.

A charity auction, run by Ivor Mann of John Coad and Son in Helston, sold items and vouchers donated by local businesses in aid of the president's chosen charity the Cornwall Air Ambulance New Heli Appeal. The final amount raised has yet to be announced.

Show president Kevin Bennett presented the exhibitors with trophies, shields and rosettes earned from the day's entries in cattle and sheep, produce, cooking, photography and handicrafts.

Best bullock in show was this year shown by Gail Ellis, who also provided the reserve champion amongst her six trophies, while G&S Renfree had the overall supreme champion in sheep and won a total of five trophies.

More than 30 stallholders from the local community brought along goods to sell and competitions to run in aid of charities, with an educational interactive pod provided by the NFU helping ensure there was plenty to entertain the whole family on a free day out.
