A FALMOUTH shop owner is celebrating her first year anniversary in the town this week, writes Lydia Jackson.

Botanical Atelier artist Sarah Jane Humphrey, who won a Gold Medal in the 2018 Botanical Art Show in London for her exhibition of ‘Medicinal Plants and their Symbiosis with Pollinators’, has been running the store since last November.

Sarah said: “It’s great being based in Falmouth. There is such a good mix of people, from the students to the tourists and the amazing locals. I get a wide range of people from all kinds of backgrounds attending my workshops and it’s great to see that so many people are interested.”

She showcases and sells her work from her shop in Arwenack Street.

She also holds weekly workshops to allow the public to learn about botanical illustration and try their hand at both drawing and watercolour.

Sarah recently created the illustrations for Brewdog’s new botanical rum, available in Asda, and has also worked with The Eden Project, Tesco, Twitter and the Royal Horticultural Society.

Whilst Botanical Atelier is a place you can purchase Sarah’s work - both prints and originals - Sarah also stocks a wide range of books and products, including jewellery, pyjamas, homeware and a skincare range.

She added: “A large part of my stock is supplied by local makers. I like to support other businesses in the area and to promote products that are in keeping with the values of Botanical Atelier."

Sarah also stocks around a hundred books and magazine titles linked to botanical illustration, the natural world and healthy living.

This week, to celebrate her first year, Sarah will be giving away an artwork free of charge to those who book on to one of her workshops.

They are all on Wednesdays and are as follows:

November 27 (10-11am) - Painting with Espresso

December 4 (10am-12pm) - Botanical Charcoals

December 11 (10am-12pm - Winter Botanical Journals

December 18 (10am-12pm) - Watercolours
