Firefighters have spent the evening trying to bring a blaze at a seaside holiday park under control.

The fire broke out in Praa Sands at 8.55pm, when the Critical Control Centre received a number of 999 calls from the public reporting a large fire in the village.

The callers reported a static caravan was on fire and initially it was unclear whether anyone was inside.

Two crews from Penzance were sent, with a third from St Just subsequently scrambled.

A fire service spokesperson said: "On arrival it was not clear if the occupants of the caravan were accounted for.

"Quickly after arrival crews were able to confirm all persons were accounted for."

Crews have been using a main jet and a hose reel jet to tackle the fire and protect nearby caravans.

The most recent update at 10.10pm was that appliances were shuttling water from a nearby hydrant to supply the firefighting effort.
