FIREFIGHTERS spent several hours tackling a large fire in Praa Sands Holiday Park last night.

Just before 9pm, Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service's Critical Control Centre received a number of 999 calls from the public reporting a large fire in Praa Sands.

The callers reported a static caravan was on fire.

Two appliances from Penzance and a duty officer were immediately sent to the scene.

On arrival it was not clear if the occupants of the caravan were accounted for, an appliance from St Just was mobilised to support the incident.

Quickly after arrival crews were able to confirm all persons were accounted for. Crews reported one static caravan was on fire.

They used a main jet and a hose reel jet were being used to tackle the fire and protect nearby caravans.

The effort to contain the fire continued for some time, with appliances shuttling water from a nearby hydrant to supply the fire fighting effort.

At 11.30pm breathing apparatus crews were finally withdrawn as the fire was extinguished.

An appliance remained at the scene to monitor for hot spots.
