The driver of a school coach has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition following a crash that also injured two children.

It happened on the A3078 at Tregony at around 8.30am, between the B3287 Tregony Hill and the Portloe turn-off.

The air ambulance landed nearby and flew the driver of the coach, a man in his 70s, to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

There are unconfirmed reports that he was taken ill suddenly before the crash.

The school bus was carrying children to the Roseland Academy from Veryan.

Two of the students received minor injuries in the crash and were treated at the scene.

The Roseland Academy Facebook page states: "We are aware of the bus incident, the two buses that are currently stuck, once the area is cleared they will be making their way here.

"The students that were on the bus that had an accident are making their way into school via the school minibus and we will contact parents when they arrive."

A police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 8.30am to Tregony following reports of a collision involving a coach carrying secondary school children.

"It was reported that the coach had been in collision with a wall.

"Emergency services attended the scene and closed the road.
