A RARE collection of Cornish photographs will be published if a Crowdfunding campaign proves successful.
Hidden in Plain Sight is a book by award-winning photographer, Claire Wilson (LLE photography), that documents the beauty, colour and nature of the county’s neglected mines today, both above and below ground.
A Crowdfunding campaign, launching this week, hopes to raise £6,500 to ensure that these rare photographic insights can be shared in a stunning limited-edition book.
Claire, from Falmouth, said: “The landscape is in a constant flow of change, and what’s true above ground is also true below it. Some abandoned mines have already suffered collapses, others are decaying and nature is taking its course. What is surprising to most, is the range of colour that you see underground. So, it is vital to document and capture this hidden world, before it’s lost forever.”
A lifetime of exploring, a degree in geology, and an intensive year of photographing underground in some of Cornwall’s hidden mines, have culminated into this fascinating insight into the mines that so dominates our Cornish landscape.
If successful this Crowdfunder will help pay for graphic design work, and the cost of printing. It will also allow Claire to continue her important work to photographically document the county’s heritage that may otherwise be lost in time.
As a thank you to those who give their support to help this project to come to fruition, there are some great rewards available. These include photography lessons with the photographer, prints from underground, a unique underground tour in collaboration with Cornwall Underground Adventures, and much more.
