A British adventurer will be in Falmouth to talk about her epic solo round the world expedition on Wednesday.

Sarah Outen will be at The Poly in Falmouth (7.30pm) for a question and answer session, before her film Home is shown.

Directed by Jen Randall, it tells the gripping story of Sarah‘s ground-breaking solo expedition around the world, where she was brought to the mental and physical brink by a violent ocean storm.

Sarah said: “I hope that Home will inspire people to dare to follow their dreams and feel less afraid of making mistakes, to explore and discover more. To be vulnerable and embrace fear and ask for support when they need it. To rethink what bravery might mean.”

For her expedition London2London: Via The World, Sarah was the engine, travelling by bike, kayak and rowing boat across Europe and Asia, the Pacific Ocean, North America and finally the Atlantic.

Her incredible four-year odyssey saw her travel over 20,000 miles and has been described by Dame Ellen MacArthur as “one of the most extraordinary journeys a human can take”.

But travelling mostly solo took its toll and the punishing elements, ticking clock and months of solitude pushed Sarah to her mental and physical limits.

Woven out of hundreds of hours of footage from the expedition, Home captures Sarah’s journey; the kindness of strangers, the wonders of the wild, the savagery of the elements, the near-death experiences, the demons of her emotional trauma and PTSD and finally her love for an Oxfordshire farmer called Lucy.

Sarah feels her journey has been all the richer for not turning out exactly as planned and that the shadows and scars it revealed have helped her to grow into herself.

Home was released last month and screens at The Poly on Wednesday. Sarah will be appearing at the screening for a live Q&A.
