Nationally celebrated author Philip Marsden will be in Helston this Friday talking about his latest book based on his sailing adventures.

The Cornwall-based author, whose previous works include The Levelling Sea, about the maritime history of Falmouth, and Rising Ground, has now written The Summer Isles, about his voyage from Cornwall up the west coast of Ireland and through the Inner Hebrides.

He interweaves stories of people encountered along the way, along with Irish history and legend.

He will be at CAST in Penrose Road at 7pm, when he will be joined by the Penzance-based artist Hadrian Pigott, also a keen sailor, for a conversation about single-handed sailing and the need to explore both real and imaginary places.

Next Friday Colin Midson, artistic director of the Port Eliot Festival, will be in conversation with Gaynor Winn and Catrina Davies whose work touches on themes of home and homelessness.
