A WOMAN who used to make pasties as a hobby at home has taken the plunge and started her own business.

Lorina Thomas is now operating as Lorina's Pasties on Falmouth's Tregoniggie Industrial Estate.

She said: "I came here at first because I wanted a table, but Wendy (who had the previous bakery Tickleyertastebuds) said 'why don't you take it on?'

"So that's what I did. It was a bit nerve-racking at first because I wasn't sure if people would buy them, but it's gone very well in the first month and more and more people are using us."

Lorina, from Longdowns, has bags of baking experience, having worked for Rowe's in Penryn for 11 years, before moving to Vicky's Bread in Helston for eight years.

"I decided that I wanted to do something for myself. I used to make a few pasties from home but since I've moved here and sold them, it's given me a buzz.

"We're getting busier all the time and I'm hoping that, at the end of the six-month contract, I'll be in a position to carry on."

Besides pasties, she has just launched an egg and bacon pie and also offers a sandwich platter service for functions such as weddings, funerals or office parties.

For orders over £20 she also has a free delivery service.

Lorina's is open six days a week, 8am until 2pm.

"I make sure every pasty that is made is done by me, because I know exactly how I want them to be. Nobody else touches them," she said.
