HUNDREDS of people joined the festive spirit in Penryn when the Christmas lights switch-on took place on Saturday.
The procession from the bowling green included Father Christmas, town mayor Chaz Wenmoth and deputy mayor Julie Tucker and was led by town crier Jim Henderson. Chairman of the lights committee Mark Snowdon then addressed the gathered masses on what was a rare dry evening in recent weeks.
The Rev'd Robbie Bowen also spoke before a lantern parade and carol singing added to the seasonal atmosphere.
The lights were then switched on by Penryn rugby legend Dave "Benji" Thomas, who led Cornwall to victory in the County Championship final at Twickenham in 1991.
