A PENRYN man has appeared in court charged with possessing a firearm, following an incident in Falmouth on Thursday evening.

Jarrod Westlake, aged 29, of Glen View, faced a total of four charges, while Connor McGurk, aged 27, of no fixed address, faced five charges before Truro magisrates today.

The allegations against Westlake are as follows:

* On November 28 in Falmouth, he possessed a single barrelled shotgun, with intent to cause unlawful violence against another

* On November 28 in Falmouth he used or threatened unlawful violence towards another and his conduct was such as would cause a reasonable firmness present at the scene to fear for his personal safety

* On November 28 in Falmouth he destroyed a window intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged

* On November 28 in Falmouth he stole a single barrel shotgun and £80 belonging to Gerrard Westlake

McGurk must answer the same allegations, plus a further charge of making threats to kill.

The case has been sent to Truro Crown Court for trial tomorrow.

Both men were remanded in custody because the alleged offences took place while they were on bail; the nature and seriousness of the offences; previous record and character; and their record of fulfilment of previous grants of bail.
