A cocktail bar in Falmouth has blamed "unforseen circumstances" for its shock closure just over a year after opening.

The Moth and Moon in Killigrew Street made the announcement on its Facebook page last night and revealed that its final night of opening would be tonight.

In a statement it said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances The Moth and Moon will be closing.

"[Saturday] is our last evening so make sure you come on down from 6pm and enjoy some cocktails!"

It went on to add this morning that they were "so sad" to be "closing for now."

The bar added: "Thank you to all our amazing customers who have supported us through out the last year.

"We have loved meeting and getting to know our regulars as well as all the fabulous holiday makers and visitors to our lovely town."

Previously run as the Mason's Arms since pub since 1860, the business reinvented itself when new owners were granted the licence in August last year.

In February this year it was granted an extension to its licence, to expand into the first floor.

A spokesperson for the bar has been quoted as saying the owners wanted to take the business "in a different direction" next year.

The Packet has contacted the bar for further comment.
