A man has died after his car hit a tree while driving in the early hours of the morning.

The 31-year-old's silver Vauxhall Astra left the road in Par at around 3.30am on Saturday, and collided with trees.

The driver, from St Austell, sustained fatal injuries and he was confirmed to have died at the scene.

Police officers from the area were joined by the county's Roads Policing Team and Serious Collision Investigation Unit to carry an investigation at the scene, with the road closed for 11 hours.

A police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and appealing for witnesses.

"They are also keen to speak with anyone who saw the vehicle travelling in the area prior to the incident or anyone with relevant dash cam footage."
