Porthleven was lit up for the festive season on Friday with a little help from Father Christmas and his elves.

The fun took place on the Harbour Head, where Porthleven Town Band played carols and other seasonal tunes in the run up to the lights switch on.

This year the honour of switching on the lights went to a girl called Isabella, who was the winner of a poster competition run with Porthleven School.

With the port illuminated in a sea of colour, Father Christmas arrived with his Porthleven elves and a fireworks display took place on the harbour.

Members of Porthleven Gig Club were on hand to keep everyone warm with hot food.

Porthleven Lights Committee said afterwards: "A fantastic evening, well done to all the hard working team."

They went on to thank Father Christmas and his Porthleven elves, Dave Turnbull, Porthleven Town Band, the fireworks team, deputy mayor Mike Toy, Porthleven Gig Club and Isabella for switching on the lights, giving a final thank you to "all the lovely people of Porthleven."

Suzie Williams of Four Crows Gallery, one of the fundraisers with the committee, added: "We're all new and have just joined the committee this year, most of us, so it's a learning curve for us all.

"We're going to continue to make improvements and keep the lights going as much as we can, with the support of donations from businesses and individuals."
