Falmouth Slimming World donated proceeds from its Christmas party raffle to help rough sleepers this year.

A cheque for £120 was presented to Andrew Hammond, the priest in charge at the Salvation Army, on Friday.

Beverley Dobell, Slimming World consultant for the group, said: "I am so proud of all my members who decide which charities to support each year.

"It was decided that proceeds from our Christmas party raffle would go to Salvation Army this year to help with their fabulous projects, in particular helping the rough sleepers in December."

Penryn and Falmouth Slimming World members meet weekly to improve their health and lose weight, but also to encourage a community atmosphere and giving to charity.

The group supports local charities and events including: Ladies Aloud, Tanya's Courage Trust, Cornwall Hospice, Flicka Donkey Sanctuary, Penryn Federation and the Salvation Army.

Beverley runs groups at Penryn Rugby Club on Thursdays at 7.30pm and Fridays at 9.30am and at the Dracaena Centre in Falmouth on Saturdays at 8.30am.
