An environmental campaigner is lobbying the town council to sign a charter that would make all future events in Falmouth plastic-free.
Kirsty Edwards from Plastic Free Falmouth suggested to councillors that all events in the town should follow a certain set of guidelines to cut down on unnecessary waste.
If the council decides to adopt her plastic-free charter, major events in the town would have to: offer reusable bags, cutlery and drink refills; and avoid plastic bottles and straws.
Kirsty said: "These are simple changes that we can make and we will be the first town council that can actually enforce these."
Councillors had questions about the financial impact the charter may have.
Councillor Patricia Minson said: "It's good and I would like to support this but what can we do to bring costs down?"
Smithick councillor John Spargo pointed to a scheme in Mevagissey that asked people to return waste to restaurants, saying that the village saved £20,000 in bin collection costs.
