Coastline Housing and builders EBC have marked the start of work on a new affordable housing development in the village of Illogan.

The new development, on a field previously owned by the Diocese, is on Church Road.

It will see the delivery of 33 new affordable homes for local people.

The housing charity will be providing 23 homes for affordable rent comprising one, two, three and four bedroom homes, and 10 homes for shared ownership, comprising two, three and four bedroom houses.

Georgina Hayman, development manager at Coastline Housing, said: “We are delighted to be bringing these new homes to Illogan and know they will make a real difference to the lives of many local individuals and families.

“As a result of feedback during the planning process, we’ve taken on board comments from local residents and the Parish Council about the layout of the homes, and are now including two one-bedroom flats as well as an area of public open space. We have also acted on comments about the appearance of the homes and will be using natural slate, local stone and heritage render colours.”

As the homes come out of the ground, Coastline and EBC will be working towards the Building with Nature accreditation benchmark, which has included the introduction of new Cornish hedges and additional native planting across the site.

These homes are funded by grant from Homes England as well as Coastline’s own resources and are due to complete in Spring 2021.

The early ground-works for the homes are currently being carried out by local company Hatton JLD Plant Hire.

To be eligible for the rented homes, people must be registered with Cornwall Homechoice, or be registered with Help to Buy South West for the shared ownership.
