Maidenhead 46, Camborne 7

Camborne suffered a heavy defeat on their long trip to Berkshire as Maidenhead hit top form to run in a total of seven tries.

The Cherry & Whites travelled in third spot in the South West Premier table following their triumph over Launceston in the big Cornish Derby but Maidenhead now leapfrog them as a result.

Play was fairly even in the opening quarter before ‘Town’ lost a player to the sin bin and Maidenhead quickly capitalised with a brace of tries one of which was converted.

With half time looming Camborne were still in touch at 12-0 but the home side crucially landed a double blow before the break that secured their bonus point and left a mountain to climb with the visitors down by 24 points to nil.

Early in the second period the home side went out of sight with their fifth try before spirited Camborne hit back to open their account when replacement Neil Stanleick was mauled over for fly half Rhys Brownfield to convert.

On the hour a penalty ended any hopes of a Camborne comeback and late on Maidenhead added further gloss to their victory with two more touchdowns to wrap things up.

Camborne will look to bounce back swiftly from this reverse when they host Okehampton this weekend.
