Penryn 49, Wiveliscombe 19

Five was the key number for Penryn after a comfortable victory over Wiveliscombe, with the five points securing a fifth straight win to take the Borough into fifth in the table, writes Ross Hancock.

Seven converted tries took Penryn close to the half century mark and in truth, it could have been even more.

The Borough are in superb form at the moment, as they continue to rise the ranks in Western Counties West with what was another good display.

The home side started well and were soon in front thanks to a Grant Randlesome try and Sam Carter conversion. A converted try from the visitors wasn’t in the script as the scores were briefly tied at 7-7, but the Borough soon regained the lead. Further tries from Ethan Pattison and Paul Saberton before the break gave the scoreline a fairer reflection of the game at 21-7.

The next goal was clearly to wrap up a bonus point as quickly as possible and it was another big tick for the hosts, as Josh Chambers continued his excellent try scoring form to register another brace of scores. There were further tries for Kyle Bradley and Andrew Seviour, all converted by Carter who was excellent with 100% from the tee on the day.

At 49-7 a big score looked likely, but it was the away side who had the final say to pinch two consolation tries to add some respectability to the scoreline at 49-19.

It was job done again from Penryn though and it sets up a fascinating league/cup clash with top of the table St Austell on Saturday. Come along and support the boys - it promises to be an absolute Christmas cracker!

The game between the Borough and the Saints kicks off at 2.30pm.
