Coastguard volunteers were called out on Christmas Day to rescue a man stuck on a cliff at Gwithian Beach.

Rescue teams from St Ives and Portreath were called out just after 3pm to carry out the daring rescue.

The coastguard helicopter from Newquay was on a training flight nearby and was also tasked to help.

A paramedic was winched down to the cliff face and lifted the casualty to safety.

The man thankfully did not need hospital treatment and was escorted home by coastguards.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson said: "Have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year everyone, but remember if you do see someone in trouble along the coast or at sea call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
