Truro City 4, Metropolitan Police 0

TRURO City bounced back from a disappointing New Year’s defeat with a convincing 4-0 victory over Metropolitan Police at Treyew Road, writes Cameron Weldon.

Alex Battle headed the White Tigers in front on the brink of half time before a second half brace from new signing Will Swan along with a header from Stewart Yetton gave City the three points, as well as their 15th win of the campaign.

Following defeat against Weston-Super-Mare just four days prior, Paul Wotton’s men arrived at Treyew Road with a number of key players missing. With Tyler Harvey, Will Dean, Adel Gafaiti, Dan Rooney, Louis Rooney, Harrison Davis and Luke Jephcott all out, changes were needed.

Despite a large number of changes including one mere moments before kick-off, Truro started strongly. Rio Garside, who was a late change in the starting line-up coming in for the injured Dan Rooney hit a shot just wide of the target before midfielder Ryan Dickson tried to round the keeper but was quickly stopped in his tracks.

It took City just shy of 45 minutes to find the deserved breakthrough. Niall Thompson charged down the wing and send in a powerful cross to Alex Battle who headed home to give City the lead going into the break.

A second would soon follow going into the second half. New Nottingham Forest loan signing Will Swan was the first to react to a loose ball as he hammered a shot into the bottom corner to double Truro’s advantage.

The 19-year-old striker was getting used to his new surroundings and got his second of the afternoon and Truro’s third with 20 minutes to play. He finished off a brilliant counter attacking move made by the brilliant Niall Thompson. Thompson cleared the ball off his own line setting Alex Battle free before the striker picked out the on rushing full back who expertly found Swan who slotted home with ease to make it 3-0.

More chances followed for both Dickson and Thompson but neither could take advantage. But Truro City legend Stewart Yetton could, as he came off the bench to make it 4-0. The striker headed home a delightful Dickson corner from close range to score his first league goal of the season and secure City victory.

The veteran striker had an opportunity to make it five, but he was denied by the post as City saw out a comfortable home victory in front of the 444 spectators.

Truro now have a week to recover before hitting the road again as they take on former manager Leigh Robinson’s Dorchester Town.
