HEALTHCARE charity Cornwall Hospice Care has announced plans to try and break the world record for the largest cream tea party.
The attempt will take place on Saturday, June 20 at the Royal Cornwall Showground in Wadebridge, when the charity hopes to serve tea to 1,200 people.
Judy Lawton, the event coordinator, said: “We firmly believe this record should be held in Cornwall, the home of the cream tea.
"To break the record we need at least 1,200 people to sit down at the same time, drinking a cup of tea and eating a jam, scone and cream, jam first of course, at the same time.”
The current record was set in November last year in China when 1,088 people took part.
To ensure success Cornwall Hospice Care are aiming for at least 1,200 people to join them on the day.
The event will have a 1940s theme and entertainment will be provided by Company B and the Liberty Sisters with dancing positively encouraged.
Forty Cornwall-based businesses are sponsoring the event, along with Boosters of Redruth who are providing all the merchandise, Rodda’s all the cream and Tregothnan the tea.
Judy added: “This will be a tea party like no other, so please join us and let’s bring this cream tea record home to Cornwall.”
