From June 1919:

While waiting for the Prince of Wales at Truro last week, a boy had his ribs crushed by the great crowd.

St John Ambulance men and nurses attended 48 cases at Truro on Wednesday week, 23 of which were heat strokes.

The British Fleet has been placed under orders against the possibility of Germany not signing the Peace Terms. All leave has been stopped.

A branch of the Church of England Men’s Society has been formed at St Budock Church, with Mr B Bettinson as secretary and Mr Roberts as treasurer.

A garden fete has been arranged to take place shortly at the Vicarage Grounds, Mylor, in aid of the Lay Reader’s Salary.

Mabe parishioner have resolved to erect three tablets in the village to the memory of local men who have fallen in the war. A public tea and a programme of sports have been arranged.

From November 1935:

The prize winners at the Catholic schoolroom whist drive on Monday were Miss Gilbert, Mesdames Jeal, Woolsey, Messrs Burleigh, Abraham and Robins. Miss Gilbert presented the prizes. MC was Mr Coleman.

Falmouth As Airport: When Mr C A Chard was elected Mayor of Falmouth, he drew attention to the great need of more houses, and the suitability of Falmouth as a “jumping off” station for air liners.

The steamer City of Alexandria arrived at Falmouth on Friday night with a leak near her propeller tube. The vessel was outward bound from Welsh ports, and the captain considered it advisable to put into Falmouth for repairs. The steamer was placed in dry dock on Saturday.

Presentations: On the occasion of his recent marriage, Mr George Watson was, on Saturday, presented with an oak table, by the staff and employees of Messrs Fox Stanton & Co, timber merchants, Penryn. At the members’ weekly whist drive, held at the Unionist Club, Mrs J Carter was presented with a gold brooch, from the committee and members, on the occasion of her golden wedding.

Musical Honours: At the recent examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, the following candidates were successful - Grade 1, primary, Molly China, pass with honourable mention. Preliminary, Norman Mallett, pass with honourable mention. They were prepared by Mr J O D Crothers, Penryn Primary School.
