EASTLEIGH youngsters can look forward to new outdoor play areas with parks across the town set to get revamped.

More than £150,000 will be spent on new play equipment and repairs for parks across the town.

Some of the projects are still at an early stage with final designs yet to be unveiled.

Funds of £65,912 of have been secured for a new playpark in the Cheriton Road Housing Estate.

Local residents were consulted on designs in November. However, they are still being drafted.

The money for the project will come from developer contributions.

In Leigh Road Recreation Ground, the play area will get a new shelter after vandals set light to a pile of clothing and waste.

The fire last year caused the existing shelter to warp damaging metal panels and meaning two seats are now unusable.

Funds of £9,800 have been set aside by the Eastleigh Local Area Committee (ELAC) for the new shelter as well as an accessible roundabout which can be enjoyed by wheelchair users.

Meanwhile, the zip wire runway at the Grantham Green play area has become compacted and floods in wet weather.

The council plans to level and resurface the ground with a “safer” material which will cost around £8,500.

It also plans to repair a broken trampoline which will cost around £3,700.

Both expenses are expected to be met with developers contributions.

On the Woodside housing estate, the new play area at Leah Gardens was opened to the public in December.

It was funded with £68,049 of developer contributions.

Funding for the projects is recommended to be approved during the ELAC meeting tomorrow.
