The Royal Navy has confirmed that a Royal Marine has died following an incident earlier this week during a training exercise on the Cornish border.
The recruit had been practising an assault from a landing craft on Tregantle Beach near Torpoint when he got into difficulties in the water.
He was taken to Derriford Hospital late on Tuesday evening but today the Navy confirmed that he had died.
In a statement the force said its “thoughts and sympathies” were with the Marine’s family and friends.
