SUMMING up has begun in the jury inquest of Falmouth father Marc Cole following his death three years ago.

The inquest, taking place in Truro, has now entered a third week, with a verdict expected tomorrow.

Mr Cole died in hospital after being tasered by police in Langton Road, Falmouth during the evening of May 23, 2017.

Coroner Gerraint Williams told the jury today that there were a number of issues they would have to consider, including the actions of police that evening and whether they were appropriate and proportionate.

He also told the jury to consider what the paramedics did after Mr Cole was tasered and what part, if any, the actions of both emergency service had in Mr Cole's death.

However, he stressed that an inquest was only to determine facts and not apportion blame.

The most recent evidence heard by the jury was from Mr Cole's family, including his mother Susan who described her son as "a quiet boy," despite having lots of friends, and "a worrier."

She said Mr Cole had nursed his father through cancer and following his subsequent death had felt he had not done enough, but had never received any bereavement counselling.

Despite never being formally diagnosed with mental health issues she felt he wasn't well.

On one occasion he had seen a van pull up outside his house and he had stood with a kitchen knife behind the door, until it drove away.

He also suffered from headaches and a scan showed an abnormality, but he never followed this up.

The jury also heard from Mr Cole's partner, with whom he had two young children, who described him as an amazing father.

She also described the death of his father as causing "enormous stress" and that his behaviour had changed.

He accused her of being unfaithful, despite this being untrue, and on the day before his death the issue had resurfaced, and she had told him to leave.

His sister Lisa had described him as "unravelling" and had been driving to Falmouth from her home in Manchester, due to her concerns for him, when she received a phone call about his death.

The summing up also included the evidence of Mr Cole's friend, Charlie Black, who said described him as "paranoid and delusional" after taking cocaine.

On the day of his death Mr Cole had visited his home, where Daniel Walters, known as 'Bungle', had also arrived.

He said Mr Cole had taken cocaine and had with him a knife.

Mr Black went to warn his mother and went outside, when he heard a "thump" and Mr Cole was on the ground, after exiting an upstairs window.

In his evidence, Mr Walters said police arrived and he heard "taser, taser, taser" shouted three times before one was deployed on Mr Cole.

However, witnesses from neighbouring houses were unable to recall a taser warning being shouted before Mr Cole fell to the ground.

They did see him "walking in circles" around the road, holding a knife and "slashing" at his neck, although most statements described his injuries as superficial.

Many described Mr Cole as having a blank expression behind his eyes.

Evidence from the police and paramedics was also due to be summed up before the jury retires to deliver its findings on three facts: who died, when they died and how they died.
