COMMUTERS will face delays to their travel time this morning as one lane of a main road into Truro has been closed.

A gas leak on Tregolls Road, the main route from Tresillian, has resulted in the closure, which will be until further notice while repair work takes place.

Traffic was badly affected yesterday, with long queues through Tresillian well into the morning.

Steve Bakes, Wales & West Utilities operational manager for Truro, gave the following update at 9am today: "We have been working in the Tregolls Road area of Truro to repair a leak on a gas pipe running beneath the road.

"In agreement with Cornwall Council and to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work, we closed a lane running in both directions along Tregolls Road at its junction with Trafalgar Roundabout.

“Our engineers have worked through the night and have now repaired the leak. In order to fill in the holes that we have dug and give the new road surface time to set, we will need to keep the lane closures in place until this afternoon (29 January).

“We would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we fixed this leak. We appreciate that working on roads such as these is not ideal, and always try hard to keep disruption to a minimum.

"It was important that we fixed this leak as soon as possible to keep the gas flowing so that people can heat their homes and power their businesses."
