JOE Wright's late penalty secured Porthleven's first home win since August 31 with victory over ten-man Callington Town at Gala Parc.

Callington led through Lee Robinson's header but Dan Richardson's free kick ensured Port went into half time level, with Cally having Ryan Lucassi sent off moments before the goal.

Port struggled to make their extra man count but Wright finally scored the winner from the spot in the 79th minute to end the hosts' three-and-a-half month wait for a victory.

Callington began the better side and had the first effort when Port conceded a cheap corner, from which Robinson managed to fire at goal, but Martyn Webster was able to smother the shot.

Lucassi headed over from another corner soon after, before Dan Stidwell's low left-wing cross into the box was cleared off the line at the other end.

But just as Port were beginning to build some pressure, the visitors took the lead, with Robinson rising to send a looping header into the far corner in the 24th minute.

Cally's joy lasted four minutes before Lucassi was shown a straight red for a last-man foul on Joe Wright, giving away a free kick on the very edge of the box.

The home side had appealed for a penalty, but Richardson curled the free kick past Sam Borthwick and into the top corner to level the scores anyway.

Callington looked to get on the front foot in the second half despite being a man down as Andre Rodukov had a shot saved by Webster within 30 seconds of the restart, before Stidwell's low cross into the box just evaded Wright at the other end.

A tepid second half began to liven up midway through as Matt Fox and Wright both failed to bundle Stidwell's cross past Borthwick, before Tommy Norton struck the post for the visitors.

Robinson missed a good chance for the visitors soon after, doing brilliantly to counter virtually all on his own before sending a shot inches wide of the far corner.

But the crucial moment came 11 minutes from time when John Wyatt was adjudged to have handled Fox's cross, with Wright slamming home the resultant penalty.

Callington tried to get back into the game but it was Port who nearly added another late on. Hugh Howlett got on the end of Stidwell's free kick in the 90th minute but saw his effort saved by Borthwick, who then managed to smother the centre-back's follow-up.
