Around £5,000 in cash has been seized by police after a car was stopped in connection to a series of thefts and pick pockets in Cornwall and Devon over the last few weeks.

Two passengers have since been charged with theft and the driver will be deported.

The Devon and Cornwall Police No Excuse team said: "On Friday evening we stopped a vehicle just outside the Devon border on the A303 which had been linked to a series of thefts / pick pockets across the Devon and Cornwall area in the past few weeks.

"The driver lied about his name but the trusty fingerprint reader sealed his fate and revealed he was disqualified from driving.

"The rear passenger was wanted around the UK for various theft offences and also on warrant for failing to appear at court.

"The third passenger was also linked to numerous theft offences.

"Approximately £5,000 cash was recovered between them."

All three were arrested and taken to Exeter Custody.

The police spokesperson added: "The driver has had no criminal action taken against him, he is however going to be deported from the UK as he has re-entered despite being deported before."
