A hotel in Falmouth has been named amongst the best in the south west after winning not one but two trophies in the region’s tourism awards.

St Michael’s Resort received silver for Large Hotel of the Year and Spa & Wellbeing Experience of the Year at this year’s South West Tourism Awards.

The luxury resort, which underwent a multi-million pound transformation and re-launch in 2018, was the only Cornish property in both categories, after taking home gold for both at the Cornwall Tourism Awards in November.

Resort director Louise Uys-Jones said: “We are thrilled to have come away with two silver accolades; it’s the icing on the cake after our success at the Cornwall Tourism Awards in November.

“To be recognised as one of the top players in the region’s tourism industry is an honour and testament to our hard-working staff who are at the heart of our resort.

“The excitement can be felt across the whole team and we can’t wait to celebrate together.”

The resort’s refurbishment two years ago included a new destination spa, state-of-the-art health club, two restaurants and coastal-inspired bedrooms in The Beach House.

The awards ceremony was held at Exeter Cathedral on Thursday, with a record turnout for the annual event.

It saw 107 awards presented following a rigorous judging process, in which 773 entries were considered.
