A brass band in Falmouth is offering one lucky person the chance to learn how to play an instrument for free.

The offer by Pendennis Brass includes the loan of the instrument to take home to practise on.

The cornet in question has been returned to the band by a previous member who has now gone on to university.

Rather than have it sitting unused, band chairman Glyn Thomas has agreed to give one lesson a week to someone who would like to learn to play it, with a view to them eventually being able to join the band.

The minimum age limit would be around eight or nine and there is no maximum age limit.

Mr Thomas said: "We're looking for anyone young or not so young and I'm prepared to teach them.

"It's such a shame for it to be sitting there doing nothing."

Mr Thomas, who is an ex Royal Marine musician, has taught around 20 people how to read music and become competent players.

Anyone interested can call Mr Thomas on 07960 658164 for more details.
