A new year means a new look for the cafe at one of Helston's most popular beauty spots.

The Lakeside Cafe at Coronation Park was taken over by David and Lucy Page in January last year and a year on they have turned their attentions to giving it a makeover.

The couple already own Nauti But Ice and Go Nauti Pizza in Porthleven, and the Stables Cafe at Penrose.

David told the Packet: "The main aim of the refit was to create a modern and welcoming environment that would become a destination in its own right.

Falmouth Packet:

"Considerable time was spent reviewing how people used the space, resulting in the early decision to remove the doorway that lead to the piazza.

"The introduction of soft furnishing and olive trees has dramatically cut noise levels.

"Equally well received is the new lighting and log burner which creates a wonderful background warmth.

"Where possible we've thought about the types of materials used; my favourite is the worktops which are manufactured from recycled plastic bags."

He went on to praise the "small army of fantastic local tradesman" that carried out the refurbishment.

Work has also taken place behind the scenes, with the kitchens modernised and improvements made to the toilets, which can be used not only by cafe customers and anyone using the park, free of charge.

The cafe was designed by Porthleven design studio Boex, which picked out the park's wildlife as a main theme.

The splashes of colour used in the cafe are designed to replicate those in the feathers of the ducks outside.

At the same time, the cafe's new logo from John Lowden combines a duck with a tea cup.

The couple had already revamped the menu, with David saying: "We now provide good quality cafe style breakfasts and lunches using fresh ingredients from local suppliers.

"Additionally, we serve premium quality Origin coffee and Roskilly's ice cream.

"Since reopening we have been really pleased with increased footfall and near universal positive customer feedback."

Still to come are new picnic tables outside, a take away kiosk and a fleet of new swan pedalos.
