ARE you a budding journalist looking to start your career?
We have a rare opportunity for someone to join our team at the Packet as apprentice journalist, while gaining industry recognised qualifications in the process.
The successful candidate will join our Falmouth newsroom and, as well as working from our offices, you will go to college one day a week to learn shorthand, law and other news-related skills in a course accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists.
You will be working on all types of stories for our website and printed newspapers. One day you could be interviewing someone about their charity expedition, the next sitting in a town council meeting covering the issues that affect our communities.
You might be out on the streets getting people’s views on video and for print, or writing up a preview of a show for our entertainment section, before turning your hand to writing a breaking news story for online about a car crash or a fire.
No previous experience is needed, but you will need to demonstrate a natural curiosity to dig out a story and write to a good standard.
The Packet is owned by Newsquest, one of the largest regional news publishers in the UK with a portfolio of more than 165 news brands, plus 40 magazines, published online and in print.
With an online audience of almost 30 million users a month and six million readers a week in print, their content is read by a substantial proportion of the UK population.
