Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team may be hoping for a slightly quieter weekend after being sent out twice to search for people feared missing and in danger last weekend.

While Storm Dennis may be battering the area today, it was during Storm Ciara last Sunday that both shouts took place.

The volunteer team was first alerted to a possible missing person when belongings were found on a drifting vessel in the height of the storm.

Following a search of the river banks, they found the person safe and well inland.

Later the same day, while carrying out safety patrols in the Falmouth area as people went out weather-watching, they were sent to Pendennis Point to give out safety advice.

It was after concerns were raised over the safety of some people, but on arriving they found no one in danger.

A team spokesperson said: “They were believed to have left the area before our arrival.”

The Falmouth coastguard team has issued a warning to anyone planning to go out and see Storm Dennis in action this weekend.

The spokesperson added: “Avoid coastal paths, promenades, piers, cliff edges, harbour walls or going in the water!

“Don't take risks: waves are unpredictable. It only takes 15cm of water to knock you off your feet.

“No photo is worth your life.

“Respect the water - not everyone can be saved.”

If you see someone in trouble at the coast or in the sea call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
