It’s all change for the British Red Cross as the charity seeks a new volunteer president for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to mark its 150th anniversary.

The Red Cross is looking for a committed humanitarian, with strong local connections, to organise fundraising events across the county.

Rosie Jackson, outgoing president for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, joined the Red Cross eight years ago.

She describes the role of President as a "unique opportunity" to put your stamp on the charity’s amazing work.

Rosie said: “I am immensely proud of my time working with the Red Cross in Cornwall. It’s a fantastic organisation and there’s never been a better time to join.

“We’re blessed with a team of committed volunteers, who support the services our staff members are implementing to help vulnerable people in Cornwall.

“There are already so many exciting plans in place to celebrate this landmark birthday. We’re looking for someone with the passion and energy to drive those plans forward and make our 150th year the best yet.

“As presidents, we each bring our own unique experiences and talents to the organisation. It’s a chance to put your own unique stamp on this amazing role and encourage your friends to support you by forming a committee to raise funds and awareness around our county.”

As well as supporting vulnerable people overseas, the Red Cross provides many volunteer-supported community services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, bringing practical and emotional support to people facing a crisis.

Across the county, the Red Cross has helped 296 people leave hospital safely and re-settle into their homes and worked closely with the fire service and local authorities to help 647 people facing flooding, house fires and other emergencies.

By signing up as a volunteer president, you can help the Red Cross continue its vital work in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
