Ealing Trailfinders forwards coach Glen Townson insists his side are ready and raring to go ahead of their Championship Cup quarter-final against Jersey Reds.

The two teams met just two weeks ago in the league and the Reds will be looking for revenge after Trailfinders narrowly triumphed 28-24 away from home.

After winning all six of their group games, Ben Ward’s team look well-placed to retain the trophy they won in such thrilling fashion in the final over London Irish last season.

And Townson admits the players are all excited about one of the biggest matches of the 2019/20 season so far as they bid for a place in the final four.

“You don’t need any motivation for games like this with what is at stake,” Townson said.

“I know that the players can’t wait for it. We’re in good form at the moment but this is knockout rugby and Jersey will be fired up for this so it should be a great occasion.”

Ward has made six changes to the team which convincingly beat Bedford Blues 38-5 in the rain at Trailfinders Sports Club last Saturday.

Experienced hooker Alun Walker, who made his debut for the club in 2014 and played in National One, returns to start in the front-row after an impressive performance off the bench last time out.

Former Jersey Red Dave McKern will pack-down behind Walker at lock against his former club, while Shane Buckley is the final change in the forwards.

In the back division, Nathan Fowles replaces ex-Wasps playmaker Craig Hampson at scrum-half as Pat Howard moves from centre to wing as Bath loanee Levi Davis drops out of the squad.

Harry Sloan, in his second year at Ealing after signing from Harlequins in 2018, makes up a solid centre partnership with Jack Tovey.

Fan favourite Craig Willis, meanwhile, will start at fly-half as Steven Shingler looks to make an impact off the bench in what promises to be a pulsating affair in West London.
