A national company is marking its 250th anniversary year by opening a new branch in Helston this Monday.

The latest addition by Bradfords Building Supplies marks the 43rd store for the firm, which has branches across the south west, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

The new Helston store opens its doors to the trade and public this Monday, with free bacon baps with every purchase next Monday and Tuesday. It will also be celebrating St Piran’s Day on March 5 with a free pasty.

An official launch event will then take place on Thursday, March 26 from 5pm, when more than 30 suppliers are due to attend and Pirate FM will be broadcasting live at the branch.

There will be a free hog roast and bar along with side events and music from samba band Penzamba.

Pete Slinn, general manager at Helston, said: “This new purpose-built branch allows us to extend the service we can provide to the local Cornish community. With both the traditional building supplies offering and a tool hire facility, we’re able to supply trade and retail alike with their construction projects.”

As far as possible, Bradfords have used local contractors to bring the branch to life.

Pete added: “We’ve had an excellent service from Matt Lugg and his team at MJL, and their sub-contractors BJP Construction, throughout the build, as well as from Flockhart Heating Engineers, all of whom are Helston based.”

In addition, the branch has already built a strong relationship with Helston Rugby Club, he said.

Cath Mullin, south west area director for Bradfords, said: “At Bradfords we’re all about being part of the community in which we operate, so we want locals to come and be part the wider Bradfords family, particularly in this, our 250th anniversary year.

"Opening up the new branch is all about welcoming everyone in.”

Bradfords is the third business to open on the site, following Screwfix and Forms Plus, with Howdens announced to be also joining the business park following the next stage of development.

Business park owner Matt Lugg wished Bradfords and its team every success with its new branch.

He said: "It’s great to see the unit finally completed and ready for trading after many years of negotiation and construction.

"It was great to deal with the Bradford’s team throughout the construction process.

"This development has created great employment opportunities which will hopefully continue as new businesses move in to the business park.”
