THREATS to "smash up" cars and a property has resulted in a suspended prison sentence for a 39 year-old man.

Mathew James Beer, of Pink Moors, St Day, admitted committing the offence in Redruth and also a charge of assault on February 15.

Cornwall magistrates imposed a 16-week sentence suspended for 12 months.

They said the reason for custody was that the defendant made "very serious threats" to kill and seriously damage property, causing "tremendous fear" to the victims.

The defendant was under the influence of alcohol and also committed the offence whilst subject to a community order.

He was also ordered to pay £122 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
