It seems that Falmouth no longer welcomes visitors. On a cold wet and very dark February evening I dropped my wife off to pick up our fish and chip supper from the Harbour Lights restaurant.

I have been a very regular visitor to Falmouth for the past 50 years and know my way around. I drove down on to Custom House Quay to turn round and wait for her.

In view of the terrible weather conditions I stayed in the car and when I saw her leave the shop drove up to pick her up.

I was therefore speechless to receive in the post back home in Winchester a parking charge notice for £100!! £56 if paid within 14 days.

It was after 6pm and it never occurred to me that there would be a charge for waiting for someone in what was by then an empty car park.

I didn't get out of the car and, in the appalling weather conditions, failed to see any notice about being unable to wait in the car.

If this is the way Falmouth chooses to treat its visitors spending money in the town then I fear for the future of the town centre.
