After the success of last year, Falmouth School called on their star bakers once again to help celebrate World Book Day in a bake-off with a twist.

Students were asked to bake a cake or sweet treat inspired by a book and the entries were enough to warrant a Paul Hollywood handshake!

With a number of fantastic entries from students and staff, judging was a difficult task and in the end, it was decided there would be a joint first place and joint runner up spot.

In joint first place was Year 8 student Zsofia Ungvari and Year 7 students Amelie Wright and Mischa Bayton.

Zsofia’s cake was inspired by the David Walliams book Ratburger, while Amelie and Mischa went for a classic with a Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone cake.

In joint second was Grace Pennock (8B1) with her fantastic Kensuke’s Kingdom design and the duo of Marnie McCardle and Poppy Shuff (both 9B2), for their Wizard of Oz inspired creation There was also a bronze spot for Marli Schoeman, Charlie Watkins and Lorna Moore’s Discworld cake.

The cakes were sold at break time and raised close to £100 for charity.

The bake off wasn’t the only thing going on at Falmouth School for World Book Day though, as the Decorate a Door competition was introduced.

Tutor groups were tasked with decorating their tutor classroom doors with the most creative, weird and wonderful designs, with more amazing entries.

The winners of the competition were the PSA area, 10S2’s Lorax display and the Mr Men door from 7B1.
