A Penryn charity desperately needs £50,000 to continue undertaking their community projects.

Sea Sanctuary is a mental health charity that focuses on "blue health", the concept that blue spaces such as the sea are beneficial for people’s mental and emotional wellbeing.

Its founder and CEO, Joseph Sabien said: "The year ahead looks to be extremely challenging for us to meet the demands on our service. As it stands, unless we can find significant funding, our community projects will cease to exist. These projects are a lifeline for many people."

The award-winning charity uses innovative and unconventional methods offering services including homes for children who have experienced trauma.

The children then embark on marine and educational based-activities that provide therapy. The charity also looks to help adults and families suffering with mental health illnesses.

The group programmes focus on improving mental wellbeing, building emotional resilience and increasing confidence within a social setting.

Mr Sabien added: "Over the years, the funding landscape has changed and it's far more difficult to secure the funds required to run projects. Yet, year on year, we find our service is in more demand."

He urged people to help save the charity: "Sea Sanctuary specialises in supporting people who are difficult to engage with and those individuals where conventional therapy hasn't worked. Without us, many would have given up on life. All of our projects require funding and we must now ask you to help us in our work.

This appeal is not for us, it is for every single one of you out there who might one day need our help."

The charity has set up a JustGiving account and you can donate at https://www.justgiving.com/seasanctuary.
