PENRYN RFC has joined the growing list of local sports clubs to close their clubhouses due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Borough joins Falmouth RFC and Helston Athletic in announcing clubhouse closures this week.

Penryn ceased all club-related activity from today (Friday, March 20), with the clubhouse and Beanys Lounge being closed with immediate effect

In a statement, the club said: "Due to the ongoing advice from the Government regards Coronavirus Covid-19, Penryn RFC have made the decision to cease ALL club-related activity from midday on Friday 20th March 2020.

"This means that in addition to previously cancelling all rugby and social events, we are now closing both the clubhouse and Beanys Lounge.

"Please note, businesses and groups that use facilities based at the clubhouse or Beanys Lounge will no longer be able to access either venue after this time.

The Learning Zone will only be available to FalCare CIC Ltd. No PRFC members will be permitted to use this venue from the 20th March. Other businesses that occupy club premises not listed above may remain open at their own discretion. Please contact them direct to check access arrangements.

"During this difficult time, Penryn RFC hope that all our staff, volunteers, members, players and supporters as well as the wider community stay safe and remain healthy. Please keep up to date with all the latest Government advice."

Penryn's local rivals Falmouth have also suspended all social events at the club and have closed their gymnasium until further notice.

A statement posted on the club's website read: "Following the government and RFU’s announcements, Falmouth RFC will be fully implementing the government recommendations for social distancing and implementing the RFU’s directive. All rugby activity is suspended in order to protect all our members and the wider community.

"All social events at the club are also suspended, pending review and further government guidance.

"Unfortunately, due to the nature of this situation, the club has opted to close the gymnasium until further notice. However, where possible, our members are encouraged to keep active and look to support one another in what will undoubtedly be a very difficult time.

"The club will continue to review and monitor government and RFU advice and will provide detailed updates in the coming weeks.

"We ask that everybody heeds government advice and keeps themselves safe - we look forward to seeing you all back to The Recreation Ground soon."

Helston Athletic closed their busy clubhouse at their Kellaway Park home on Thursday.

The club announced the decision on Twitter, saying: "In support of Government guidelines towards social gathering, as a club we now believe the right thing to do is close with immediate affect and until further notice.

"We hope it will not be to long before we can safely reopen. Please look after yourselves, family and friends."

Wendron United's clubhouse remains open as usual, with the club asking people to "be mindful and respectful of personal health and hygiene at this time and to follow Government guidelines regarding prevention and isolation".
